How accessible this website is

Overall our website is accessible and our customers should be able to use the site without too much difficulty. We are aware of a few minor issues that may affect the accessibility of some parts of the website:

  • Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • Older videos will be missing audio description or a text alternative

Disproportionate burden

PDFs

Some of our PDFs do not comply with WCAG 2.1 to Level A and AA which may make them difficult for some of our users to access. For example:

  • They currently do not have bookmarks so some users will find it difficult to navigate the PDFs. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.5 (Multiple Ways)
  • They do not a document title which can make it hard for some users to quickly determine the purpose or topic of the PDF. This fails WCAG success criterion 2.4.2 (Page Titled)

We do not intend to reproduce existing PDFs in accessible versions as this would be a disproportionate burden. The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. For any new PDFs, we will ensure they are created in an accessible way.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

  • The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23  September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
  • Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
